    Jeff,

Great information here. Thanks for sharing. I especially love the emphasis on context. This is definitely going to become more important as mobile Web access increases.

The only thing I’d add (though it may just be implied) is this: It’s important to think about how you can utilize the same, or similar content, for a number of these media. For example, a great eBook can be redeveloped into a Webinar or slideshow to reach different audiences with different preferences for consuming information.

This isn’t to say that you can recycle the same thing all the time, of course — always bring new ideas and insight — but make sure to get the most out of your best pieces and hard work.

Great list, I particularly love that you added “going mobile.” Creating a mobile-friendly website is extremely important, given the amount of time we all spend on them. Perhaps equally as important, and something less thought of, is optimizing landing pages for mobile phones. Since users are spending so much time browsing, it makes sense that they will also be looking for solutions to some of their issues. Offering these users an optimized landing page for mobile browsing is something online marketers should be working on

    Another fabulous post!

I agree content is far more important than just getting someone to your site/blog, etc…

Great job, Jeff! Thanks for the “Start Streaming” reminder. I really need to work on that part. Finding someone that’s comfortable in front of the camera is way harder than I expected!

    My add on:
    #11 – Utilize Social Bookmarks

Sites like Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, Reddit, a Sphinn provide unique alternatives for users to find trending/popular content that’s relevant to their industry and interests. Be sure to leverage the thumbnail, category, and tagging features the sites provide. Those are critical for interested users to easily find your content. Since social bookmarking sites also receive a high amount of traffic, each submission contributes to link popularity for SEO. By being the first one’s to bookmark your own content, you make it easier and faster for others to do it as well.

Realize that the concept of putting “your website content in front of more people” has multiple meanings. Earlier this year I had my Ecommerce team set up personal Delicious accounts as an easy way to share their research and resources with the team. By tagging social bookmarks with keywords like “stats”, “conversion”, or “tools” it makes it very easy for us to leverage eachother’s “content.”

    Cheers! =)

Great stuff, as always, Jeff. You had me at “the content matters, not the website.” Everything comes down to getting your story told and retold. The people who actually know what their stories are get the best results.

    Good words of wisdom, Jeff.

Might I also add SEO? Search marketing is still largest factor for getting folks to visit your site. When you add SEO to the ingredients you list above, it makes for a powerful recipe.

The Important Things Any Website Needs To Succeed is The title because is essential for a reader to immediately get a feel for what a page is about, and of course from the site owner’s perspective by adding a well worded title/summary you are also helping search engines to get a feel for that page’s content.

The mark of a good blog post is the ability to get the reader to take action immediately on one or more of the suggested actions.
Since I raced off to do two of them while reading this – it was timely and useful – thanks!

Howdy this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors
or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
